A comprehensive nationwide survey carried out by freedom2choose on the effects of the smokeban has thrown up some expected and unexpected results. Pubs, street bars and cafe bars featured strongly with views from all sections of the hospitality trade being sought.
We all know the carnage this ridiculous total ban has caused.
We all know the financial distress this ridiculous total ban has caused.
We all know what the future holds should this ridiculous total ban stand.
But, I ask, DO THE POLITICIANS?
I want to concentrate on just one section of the survey which, to many, will indicate the people's disgust of this pathetic, all-controlling NuLabour Government which has turned us into the 'nanny' of all NANNY states!
35% of landlords, interestingly, said it would change the way they vote!
43% of those surveyed stated that they would switch to another party.
29% of those surveyed stated that they would NOT vote.
19% of those surveyed stated that they would switch from Labour to Conservative.
5% of those surveyed stated that they would switch from Labour to LibDem.
It must be stated here that many of those surveyed were non-smokers, yet not one was prepared to switch from any other party to the Labour party at the next election. Of the 43% who stated they would switch to another party, the majority indicated they had voted Labour but had clearly had enough of their style of rule.
The most disturbing revelation was that 29% stated that they would not vote at all at the next election! Nationwide, that means nearly a third of our landlords were so disenchanted with governments that they basically thought all parties were the same - useless! To put it another way, as one pub owner said, "It doesn't matter who's in charge, we're gonna get stuffed!"
The thought of 29% relinquishing their right to vote is most disturbing indeed as it would indicate to some that the will of the people has been broken. This must not happen!
If 29% of the people marched, in civilised protest, on Westminster there would be chaos. London would grind to a standstill.
Parliament would be in turmoil.
'Lost Trade' figures would headline the 6 o'clock news.
The Metropolitan Police force would be rendered powerless.
Sadly, we fall way behind the French in such matters - public feeling does not light fires in such a manner here! (Lucky government, methinks!)
19% said they would switch from Labour to Conservative - a massive swing in any election.
5% said they would switch from Labour to LibDem - surprising in view of the latest weak-kneed LibDem Leader's responses to certain major topics!
It matters not how we feel about individual MPs - they are elected to serve the electorate (sick joke really!). What does matter is the fact that this survey clearly shows that this government, with all its glorified nannyisms, has blatantly failed the people it is supposed to serve.
If these survey figures transpose themselves to the ballot boxes, NuLabour will be lucky to retain 100 seats in the next Parliament. What they have 'achieved' since July 1st 2007, is to destroy systematically their own stronghold - that which is known as the 'Thick Northern Block'! That is the mass of red seats on the political map in the North. They promised the clubs exemptions, but then Caroline Flint had her moment of glory - long will she live to regret her glorymongering!
NuLabour ignored a few important factors prior to the smokeban:-
- Smokers will not stand outside in the freezing cold;
- Non smokers will not leave their mates outside alone;
- Smokers will stop going to the pubs/clubs;
- Non smokers will stop going for the above reason;
- Pubs and clubs will close down through lack of business;
- People will lose their social lives entirely.
NuLabour MPs have successfully caused their own demise through ignorance and intolerance. They can thank ASH & CRUK for their pending downfall, for they have given them so much money to further the smokeban cause, it is almost immoral! The people are now becoming aware of the lies and falsifications, the twisted science and the manipulation used by the Government to get its smokeban law through Parliament.
They have killed off 15,000,000 peoples enjoyment!
They have killed off 1,600 pubs!
They have killed off 76 Clubs!
They have killed off 44 Bingo Halls!
And finally, thankfully, SMOKING HAS KILLED OFF NuLabour.
