Dawn O'Brien was 'hit' with £3,000 in fines and £800 costs for transgressing yet another nanny state bit of legislation designed to finally kill off the pub trade we all once enjoyed.
The culprit – A DISCO!
One neighbour, who incidentally lives 10ft away from her pub, complained about the noise. The nasty officious little jobsworths prosecuted and Dawn nearly had a heart attack!.
Dawn O’Brien, licensee of the Fox, in St Leonards, Hastings in East Sussex is preparing to appeal against this massive penalty, brought about by her desire to entice customers back into her struggling pub.
The case offers further evidence of the lack of leniency councils and courts are prepared to show as pubs struggle to cope with the smoking ban.
A spokesman for Hastings Borough Council said: “I very much hope that this will act as a warning to the owners of other licensed premises that they need to think about those people living nearby.
“We are determined to take a strong line on this type of noise nuisance and will make sure that licensees take their responsibilities seriously.”
A council spokeswoman added that a warning letter was sent to the pub on July 17 prior to the breach of the notice. However O’Brien said she did not receive any such letter.
In this day and age where nulabour are attempting to control every single aspect of our lives we have to ask the question. Just what are we going to be allowed to do in 10yrs time? Anything at all?
