Well here we are again Anna & I setting of to Partick to let the people know we are not forgetting them. We had mixed views on this visit as some of the bar staff did not know about the petitions (not good).
Then a glimmer of hope when we reached the Victoria Bar (who had requested more petitions since our last visit) – lots of petitions, all signed, and more blank ones left. Then we spotted the smokers outside the bingo hall, so off we sped, pen in hand. 'Great' they all said. 'About time something was done.' said another. We were welcomed by the manager of the bingo hall and left lots of petitions.
The Quarter Gill had only part time staff on so they said I need to speak to the manager who was not on until after 6, so we left message saying we will call her on the phone.
Then into a busy cafe for some lunch where we asked the ladies if they were smokers ? Eureka, they were all smokers and up for getting us lots of signatures – again, lots of petitions left there.
I truly feel if we want to get thousands of signatures from the west we will have to go and try to get some kind of leadership set up, Glasgow is a big place. There will be another visit to Partick in two weeks' time to collect and try to get a meeting arranged with the Quarter Gill, our main target.
It's Motherwell we are going to next – the home town of 'little Hitler' as I like to call him (McConnell). This time we will have a few bodies with us to help get the petitions filled. I believe we will have the backing of the local press on this one (at last).
I cannot stress the need for help to spread the word in the west as there is only Anna and I doing it at the moment. Please please if you are fit and able and can help us out on this matter, please get in touch with Belinda. We can get the 100,000 signatures by March if we can get around Glasgow.
The next report will be about Motherwell so watch this space
